Half Day Grape Harvest Experience with Tasting in Epernay

The grape harvest season in Champagne is one of the most exciting moments of the year for any wine lover. This period offers a rare opportunity not only to observe but also to actively participate in the harvest process that gives birth to the sparkling champagne enjoyed around the world.

take part in the harvest

Taking part in the grape harvest allows you to fully immerse yourself in the Champagne winegrowing world. Participants will have the unique opportunity to hand-pick grape clusters alongside passionate experts. It is a chance to learn the subtleties of this essential task that precedes all the winemaking processes.

In addition to picking, participants can observe closely what happens after the harvest. This includes watching how the grapes are pressed to extract their precious juice, marking the first step in transforming the fruit into the final beloved product.

A family-friendly atmosphere

What makes this experience particularly memorable is the warm and friendly atmosphere during the harvest. Working side-by-side with local winegrowing families allows you to create unique bonds and better appreciate the hard work and passion required to produce excellent champagne.

Small family estates often take great pride in passing down their traditions and expertise accumulated over several generations. You will have the opportunity to interact directly with the producers and ask all your questions about the winemaker’s profession.

Tasting freshly pressed grape juice

One of the most fascinating experiences during the Champagne harvest is undoubtedly tasting the freshly pressed grape juice. Before fermentation and maturation even begin, you can taste the purity and freshness of the raw product. This offers a new perspective on the complexity and magic of the winemaking process.

Learning about the three main grape varieties used in Champagne – Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay – also enriches the experience. Each grape variety has its own characteristics and contributes differently to the flavor and structure of the final champagne.

Exploring the winemaking facilities

During your visit, exploring the facilities is a must. Family estates often offer guided tours of their cellars and equipment, explaining each step of production in detail. From the traditional press to the fermentation tanks and the cellars where the bottles rest, every place tells a story rich in heritage and tradition.

These visits help you better understand the organization and carefully developed logistics required to manage an efficient harvest. Becoming aware of all the passion and precision behind each bottle further deepens your appreciation for champagne.
